Before a recent spring training game somewhere in Florida, a baseball executive brought up the Knicks and St. John’s.

“New York is still a baseball town,’’ the New York native said. “But it would be fun to see those two teams make some noise.”

I decided to break it to the exec that NYC is really a basketball town, despite the Knicks’ lengthy history of disappointment.

The Yankees are certainly the bigger brand worldwide, but when the Knicks are good — really good — there’s nothing that tops them around here.
