The time is right for Mercedes Moné’s return and to hopefully unveil the next iteration of her character in AEW.

She is currently no-belt Moné after finishing off a month-long tour of Europe to drop the final five (one vacated) of her record 13 simultaneous championships she collected during her first two years in AEW. Moné did exactly what she said she would do when she joined AEW – taking women’s wrestling global – and should be commended for it

The interview she gave after losing it all and making good on her promises is hopefully the road map for what the second part of her AEW run is going to be, because who we saw was not the egotistical, self-centered, and gluttonous Mercedes Moné but the genuine, caring, and giving Mercedes Varnado.

That the person who is so deeply and passionately in love with pro wrestling and has spent the last two years trying to build up and shine a giant spotlight on women’s wrestling is so easy to root for. She was getting cheers and some standing ovations after her matches after often continuing the trend of dropping her belts to the person she beat for them.
