Aroldis Chapman is coming off a season in which he finished with some of the worst numbers of his career.

From a career-high WHIP of 1.314 to a walk ratio of 6.1 per nine innings (his worst since his second season in the majors) to a skyrocketing home run rate over the past two seasons, it’s clear the flame-throwing lefty with 306 career saves is on the decline.

His 2021 was so rocky, he briefly lost his job as Yankees closer following another epic meltdown against the Mets.

Though he eventually regained the role and finished the season in strong fashion vv allowing just one run and eight baserunners over his final 10 appearances while walking three and striking out 17 in 9 ⅔ innings — the Yankees need to start planning for the future.
