Gerrit Cole, one of the best pitchers of this generation, isn’t easily replaceable. But that doesn’t mean the Yankees shouldn’t try. 

There are two aces at least being mentioned in trade speculation, and while neither seems especially likely to be dealt, the Yankees need to try to push their way to the front of the line for Dylan Cease or Sandy Alcántara. 

If the Yankees intend to be a World Series contender (and they still do), they need to make one or more meaningful rotation acquisitions because they just are not good enough — or deep enough — as things stand.
