The ’27 Yankees steamrolled to a 110-44 record, then vaporized the poor Pirates in the World Series. Joe Girardi famously wore 27 when he first took the manager job because he wanted the world to see what his goal was: adding No. 27. He did that in his second year. Then he changed his number to 28.
