5TH RACE – Typical gutsy effort by Diligent Gambler, near-cripple 3-year-old who, despite knee chip, won nine of previous 14 starts this year with three seconds and two thirds; sat off pace duel between Star of Trieste and Coined for Success, launched rally into far turn, charged up to bid for lead mid-stretch, couldn’t stay with Fire Hero rallying down center of track deep stretch but continued on gamely for third.
6TH RACE – Forgotten Promise set pace around clubhouse turn under ground-saving ride from post 1, shook loose down backside while in hand, widened margin to wire in laugher. Bella Bourie, taken up between horses right after break, advanced along rail down backside, took up chase of Forgotten Promise far turn, flattened out final furlong. Sunshine Johanne, 2-1 favorite, was off step slowly from outside post, rushed up to contest pace, was parked six paths wide on clubhouse turn, continued wide down backside, came up empty.
8TH RACE – Bornwithit and Congressional Run dueled for lead around clubhouse turn, down backside, but heading into far turn, Wild Wadi and Coast Line rushed by as team to outside, battled for command to mid-stretch; Wild Wadi tired final furlong, but Coast Line, Ariel Smith up, took command, dug in deep stretch to hold off Go Now.
