JET NOTES
There is concern about Tom Tupa’s punting after his performance Sunday in Foxboro, but not enough that any changes are imminent.
Tupa, who before the Jets’ 10-3 win over the Patriots, had been out since last season with a sports hernia and then a sore hip flexor, simply wasn’t himself Sunday, averaging an uncharacteristic 35.4-yard gross and 28.3-yard net on nine punts.
Asked if he knows why the former Pro Bowl punter struggled, Herman Edwards said yesterday: “I don’t know. He hadn’t really punted in six months in a live situation. He was fine all week in practice, fine in warm-ups. He punted well. This [game] didn’t hurt us; we had good coverage. We expect him to bounce back this week.”
Asked if there’s any possibility of bringing the recently-departed Tommy Parks back, Edwards said, “Not at this point, no.”

Edwards made an interesting point on the crushing blow that LB Mo Lewis delivered on Patriots’ QB Drew Bledsoe, knocking Bledsoe out of the game – reportedly for a couple of weeks.
“It was really smart of Mo, because he really, really could have hit him hard,” Edwards said. “That’s where you get into a gray area with the quarterback running. If Mo would have followed through with that hit he probably would have gotten penalized.”

SS Victor Green suffered a contusion in his right quadriceps muscle late in the game. Punt and kick returner Chad Morton suffered a right ankle sprain and was to have an MRI on it late yesterday.

Asked if emotion won the game, Curtis Martin said, “Before I use the word emotion I would say, will. Everyone was determined that we were coming off that field with a win. Our will to win was so strong you can’t believe it.”

A handful of Jets players, including LBs Marvin Jones and James Darling, QB Chad Pennington and S Chris Hayes, will visit a New York City firehouse for lunch . . . Martin, LB James Farrior and special teamer Jason Glenn (CB Aaron Glenn’s brother)n each received a game ball from Edwards for their play Sunday.
