Knicks GM Scott Layden has apparently quelled the concerns of Frederic Weis’ agents. The unsigned 7-2 Parisian pivotman is expected to still come to Purchase in late June to work out for Knick coaches and play in the summer league in Boston in mid-July.

As reported in yesterday’s Post, Frank Catapano, Weis’ U.S.-based agent, wanted the Knicks’ 1999 first-round draft choice to decline the Knicks’ invitation unless there was a concrete timetable for when the Knicks will either release his rights or sign the French leaguer.

The Knicks have until Sept. 5, but Catapano wanted the Knicks to make a decision after the week-long summer league next month. Didier Rose, Weis’ French agent, had accepted Layden’s invitation with no strings attached two weeks ago.

In a conversation yesterday, Layden apparently gave Catapano assurances that a decision on whether to sign Weis would be made soon after summer-league play. Catapano and Layden are expected to speak again Wednesday during which Layden will give him something of a timetable.

“He’s going to try to accommodate me in some fashion,” Catapano said. “He may not give me the exact dates I want but there’s an understanding. Right now, all systems are go for Frederic to play in the summer league. I’m 90 percent certain.”
