Who knows where this Giants season goes next.

If Titans kicker Randy Bullock went 3-for-3 rather than 2-for-3, Giants fans would be crushing their team rather than praising it. Daniel Jones, while occasionally excellent yesterday, also threw a mind-numbing interception in the end zone and has not solidified his status as the quarterback of the future. The offensive line is still — still! — a problem. One win does not make a season successful.

But here is what can be stated definitively about the 21-20 winners after the first game of the Brian Daboll era: The new Giants head coach will not be remembered for running quarterback sneaks on second and third down from deep in his own territory.

The new Giants head coach announced himself — with both second-half adjustments and last-second bravado — as a coach who will act boldly and try to coach to his players’ strengths. The Giants might lose — and they might lose plenty this season — but they will not play scared. Xs and Os matter more in football, but this is a meaningful foundation.
