What a difference a week can make.

Seven days ago, the vibes around the Islanders were not great. Though they had snapped a losing streak by beating the Rangers — which always helps — they were below .500 and there were questions up and down the lineup.

Now? The Islanders (6-4-0) are on a four-game winning streak that includes a comeback victory over the defending champs. And their next two games on a road trip through the Midwest look eminently winnable, with the reeling Blues and the Red Wings up next before the Isles come home to play the Flames on Monday.

Of course, it’s still just 10 games into the season, and perception can swing like a pendulum. So with perspective in mind, we decided to break the current hot streak into three categories of analysis: five factors behind the winning, five reasons to be skeptical about the Islanders and five reasons to be optimistic.
