Eric Chavez occasionally heard last season that he looked out of place.
Manager Buck Showalter, who made that assessment, wasn’t questioning Chavez’s credentials to serve as the Mets bench coach, but trying to get accustomed to the relative stillness of someone who normally barely sits still.
“Now I know where I need to be,” Chavez told Post Sports+.
For the 46-year-old former third baseman, that spot is usually the batting cage. Chavez has returned as the team’s hitting coach (he held the position for the club in 2022) after a season in which the Mets underwhelmed on offense on several fronts.
