WASHINGTON — If you are a believer in domino theory, you probably raised your eyebrows a couple weeks ago at the news that the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League will ban fighting starting next season.
The specifics of how the ban will work and what punishments will be levied against players who violate the new rule remain unclear, and Canada’s other two major junior leagues, the Ontario and Western Hockey Leagues, have not announced similar crackdowns. But a few facts:
• Since 2016, the AHL has had an automatic one-game suspension in place for any player who incurs 10 or more fighting majors in a season.
• Since 2016, the OHL has subjected players to a two-game suspension for each fight after their third in a season.
