For everyone who tells you that the Rangers do not know how to draft forwards, Will Cuylle is the exception. 

For everyone who tells you that the Rangers do not know how to develop prospects up front, Will Cuylle is the exception. 

Maybe one of the reasons that Cuylle reminds me of Steve Vickers is that the latter winger, selected 10th overall in 1971, is the only forward ever drafted by the Rangers to make an NHL postseason All-Star squad, as No. 8 did in 1974-75 for the second team following a 41-48-89 season. 

The 23-year-old Cuylle’s statistics may not quite track that way but his ascension into a steady top-six role for Peter Laviolette, a coach who generally favors veterans, is noteworthy.
