YANK PHENOM OUT TWO WEEKS
Perhaps the best prospect in the minors, the Yankees’ Alfonso Soriano said yesterday that he will be out for two weeks with a strained oblique muscle .
The 21-year-old Soriano – through .316-hitting third baseman/translator Donny Leon – said he didn’t know if this will delay his callup to Triple-A.
Soriano, a shortstop, is playing at Double-A Norwich, where he owns a .305 average, with 15 homers and 68 RBIs. He hurt the oblique on his left side during Wednesday’s Double-A All-Star Game in Mobile.
“I was throwing the ball on a cutoff to third,” Soriano said.
X-rays were negative and the injury is not believed to be serious.
