GOLF: Garrigus leads at Memphis
Robert Garrigus shot a 4-under 66 to grab a two-stroke lead over Robert Karlsson after three rounds at the St. Jude Classic in Memphis.
* The third round of the LPGA State Farm Classic in Springfield, Ill., was postponed because of thunderstorms. M.J. Hur and Cristie Kerr sit atop the leaderboard at 13 under.
* The U.S. women swept all six matches at the Curtis Cup to take an 8½-3½ lead over Great Britain and Ireland yesterday at Manchester, Mass.
* Thomas Bjorn took a three-stroke lead over Richard Green at the Estoril (Portugal) Open.
TENNIS: Sharapova in final
Maria Sharapova beat Alison Riske 6-2, 4-6, 6-1 to advance into today’s final of the grass-court Aegon Classic in Manchester, England. Her opponent will be Li Na, a 6-1, 3-6, 6-3 winner over Aravane Rezai.
* Roger Federer topped Germany’s Philipp Petzschner 7-6 (3), 6-4 to reach today’s final of the Gerry Weber Open in Halle, Germany. His opponent will be Lleyton Hewitt, who defeated Benjamin Becker 6-7 (4), 7-6 (3), 6-2.
* Americans Sam Querrey and Mardy Fish will meet in the final at Queen’s Club in London.

Red Sox right-hander Daisuke Matsuzaka was a late scratch before his scheduled start against the Phillies and was placed on the 15-day disabled list just before the game’s first pitch with a strained forearm.
Daniel Nava became the second player ever to hit the first pitch he faced in the big leagues for a grand slam in the Red Sox’s 10-2 victory over the Phillies yesterday in Boston. Kevin Kouzmanoff connected on the first pitch he saw Sept. 2, 2006, for Cleveland against Texas, according to STATS LLC.
* In Montreal, McLaren’s Lewis Hamilton won his third straight Canadian Grand Prix pole. . . . After nine hours, Peugeot was still leading at the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
* Former UCLA basketball coach John Wooden was buried yesterday in Los Angeles. A public memorial is scheduled for June 26 at Pauley Pavilion.
* Pac-10 Conference officials met yesterday with top officials at Oklahoma and Oklahoma State.
* Brooklyn’s Dwan McMillan signed a national letter of intent with Hofstra, becoming the third city player to join new coach Mo Cassara‘s program. –Zach Braziller
