WNBA: Liberty to honor Weatherspoon
Former Liberty All-Star Teresa Weatherspoon will be remembered today when she is enshrined in the Liberty Ring of Honor at halftime of the team’s home game against the Tulsa Shock (4 p.m., MSG Plus).
Weatherspoon hit the most sensational shot in the franchise’s 15-year history, a half-court fling that banked in with no time left, giving the Liberty a stunning win at the Houston Comets in Game 2 of the 1999 WNBA Finals. — Lenn Robbins

SOCCER: Red Bulls settle for draw
In Carson, Calif., Frank Rost‘s New York debut was overshadowed by the play of Chivas USA goalkeeper Dan Kennedy, who stole the show in a 0-0 draw with the Red Bulls.
Kennedy made three saves for his first shutout of the season to help the Rojiblancos extend their unbeaten streak to four games. With the draw, the Red Bulls have just one win in their last seven matches, but they did move back into first place in the Eastern Conference, a point head of Philadelphia.
* Argentina lost a dramatic penalty-shootout match to Uruguay in the quarterfinals of the Copa America. Uruguay won 5-4 on penalties after Carlos Tevez had his shot blocked. Uruguay joined Peru — which beat Colombia 2-0 — as the first two teams in the final four of the South American competition.
ETC.: Busch wins 100th career race
Kyle Busch sped into auto racing history yesterday, becoming the third NASCAR driver to win 100 races. Busch’s victory at New Hampshire Motor Speedway also tied him with Mark Martin for first place in career Nationwide Series victories with 49.
* French cyclist Thomas Voeckler retained the lead of the Tour de France yesterday after the last stage in the Pyrenees, which was won by Belgium’s Jelle Vanendert.
