GOLF: McIlroy misses cut

Rory McIlroy missed the cut at the BMW PGA Championship in England yesterday after his game disintegrated in spectacular fashion in a second straight errant round, leaving his grip on the No. 1 ranking under serious threat from Luke Donald.

The U.S. Open champion made seven bogeys and two double bogeys in a 7-over 79 to finish 9 over — 21 strokes behind James Morrison, whose superb 64 gave him a four-shot lead on Donald (68) and first-round co-leader David Drysdale (70).

Jason Dufner moved into position for his second straight win and third in five weeks, shooting a bogey-free 6-under to take a two-stroke lead at the Colonial in Fort Worth, Texas.

The Byron Nelson Championship winner last week, Dufner had an 11-under 129 total. First-round leader Zach Johnson was second after a 67, and Bo Van Pelt and Tommy Gainey were third at 7 under.

Just over a week before his 67th birthday, Hale Irwin shot a 5-under 66 in the second round of the Senior PGA Championship. He trailed leaders Roger Chapman and John Cook by two strokes heading into the weekend in Benton Harbor, Mich.

Double-amputee sprinter Oscar Pistorius failed to secure a place at the London Games after he clocked a disappointing 47.66 seconds in the 400 meters at the Golden Spike meet in the Czech Republic.

Pistorius, known as the “Blade Runner,” needs to run 45.30 or faster once more before June 30 to earn a trip to London in line with the South Africa athletics federation Olympic criteria.

At the same meet, Usain Bolt won the 100 meters in 10.04 seconds. Kim Collins of St. Kitts and Nevis finished second in 10.19. Darvis Patton of the U.S. was third.
