MLB: Rockies designate Moyer for assignment
Jamie Moyer has been designated for assignment by the Rockies, about six weeks after he became the oldest starting pitcher to win a game in major league history. Moyer , 49, said in a news conference he still had hopes of continuing his career elsewhere but his immediate plan was to attend a son’s high school graduation.
Justin Smoak hit two three-run homers against his former team and the visiting Mariners used a pair of early eight-run innings to rout the Rangers 21-8. Seattle led 17-0 in the fourth inning. . . Ian Kennedy (4-5) outdueled Tim Lincecum (2-6) as the Diamondbacks beat the Giants 4-1. . . . Alexei Ramirez drove in two runs as the White Sox extended their winning streak to eight games with a 4-3 victory over the Rays . . . David Ortiz and Kevin Youkalis homered for the Red Sox in a 6-4 win over the Tigers . . . Carlos Gonzalez hit three homers in his last three at-bats as the Rockies beat the Astros 13-5. . . . Dodgers center fielder Matt Kemp, playing his second game since coming off the DL, re-injured his left hamstring in the Dodgers’ 6-3 loss to the Brewers.
Roy Oswalt , who signed with the Rangers on Tuesday, is scheduled to start for Triple-A Round Rock on Saturday.
NFL: Pro Bowl lives at least another year
