BLOTTER: Chad Curtis charged
Chad Curtis, the former Yankees outfielder, is facing an additional charge in an investigation into complaints about his behavior with female high school students in Michigan. In June, the 43-year-old was ordered to stand trial on charges he inappropriately touched two students at a school where he was a volunteer strength trainer. On Monday, Barry County prosecutors said a criminal sexual conduct count involving another female student was added.
NFL: Urlacher has knee surgery
Brian Urlacher had arthroscopic surgery on his left knee yesterday and still hopes to be ready for the season opener on Sept. 9 against the Colts.
The Bears said the star linebacker had an arthroscopic debridement procedure to help relieve swelling in the knee.
Saints owner Tom Benson met with commissioner Roger Goodell in New York to discuss matters concerning both the team and the league. The meeting came amid the backdrop of lawsuits filed by current and former Saints players who have challenged the findings of the NFL’s bounty investigation.

MLb: Orioles place Patton on DL
The Orioles placed left-hander Troy Patton on the 15-day disabled list after he sprained his right ankle walking in a parking garage. Later in the night, Mark Reynolds homered twice and drove in four runs, Omar Quintanilla also went deep and the Orioles beat Josh Beckett and the Red Sox 7-1 .
ETC: Penn State prez fights back
Attorneys for Graham Spanier, Penn State’s ousted president, are planning a news conference early next week to rebut what they view as inaccuracies in a report that concluded he concealed child sex-abuse allegations against Jerry Sandusky more than a decade ago. Spanier has not been charged with a crime and remains a tenured faculty member at Penn State. He is on sabbatical until December.

ndrew Bynum will undergo an experimental procedure on his knee in Germany, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer. Bynum plans to have the non-surgical treatment, known as Orthokine/Regenokine, in early September, the paper reported.
Jockey Robby Albarado was fined $500 for a misdemeanor assault conviction stemming from a scuffle with his former girlfriend, but the Preakness-winning rider’s legal problems aren’t behind him yet. At the sentencing, Judge Ann Bailey
Smith set a Nov. 14 hearing to decide whether Albarado violated conditions of his release in a previous assault case.
Gary Nicklaus, the 43-year-old son of Jack Nicklaus, shot a 74 for a two-day score of 4-over 145 at U.S. Amateur qualifying in Cherry Hills, Colo., leaving him tied for 82nd place and out of match play, which begins today. Bobby Wyatt, a junior at the University of Alabama, earned medalist honors with a two-day qualifying score of 132. Also advancing were Andrew Biggadike of Ridgewood, N.J., and Mike Miller of Brewster.
