NFL: Injured Steeler busted

Steelers tight end Jonathan Dekker, who spent the season on injured reserve, was arrested early yesterday in Alexandria, Va., and charged with obstruction of justice. He was released on $1,000 bond, police said.

* The Jaguars agreed to terms with five new assistant coaches, including two coordinators. Former Cleveland defensive coordinator Mel Tucker will replace Gregg Williams. Russ Purnell was hired as special teams coordinator.

RACING: It’s a Bird victorious

In Arcadia, Calif., It’s a Bird rallied from the off the pace to win the $1 million Classic at Gulfstream Park, helping Florida-bred horses easily defeat their California counterparts for the seventh straight time in the bicoastal Sunshine Millions program.

It’s a Bird led a 1-2-3 Florida sweep in the Classic – one of four Florida sweeps – to win the day’s richest race by 5 1/4 lengths. Ridden by Julien Leparoux, It’s a Bird covered 1 miles in 1:49.35 and ended a three-race losing streak for trainer Marty Wolfson. It’s a Bird paid $24 to win.

TRACK: Pompey wins 400 meters at Armory

Aliann Pompey – a native of Guyana, Olympic semifinalist in Beijing and former NCAA champion at Manhattan College – won the women’s 400-meter race at the 14th annual New Balance at the Armory. She clocked the fastest 400-meter time in the world this year, finishing the race in 51.85 seconds.

Senior Clayton Parros of Seton Hall Prep won the men’s 400 in 47.58 seconds, the fastest time in the U.S. this year.

LAX: Titans win third straight

The New York Titans indoor lacrosse team beat the defending champion Knighthawks 8-7 in Rochester last night. Casey Powell led the attack with four goals and two assists, while Jordan Hall added a goal and five assists. The Titans have won three straight since dropping their opener in Toronto.

HIGH SCHOOL: Lincoln falls again

Three-time defending PSAL champion Lincoln lost for the fourth time in five games when it fell to St. Benedict’s 89-53 last night at the Prudential Center in Newark. The Railsplitters dropped to 12-8, despite 19 points from Lance Stephenson. St. Benedict’s (N.J.) improved to 21-0, thanks to five players in double figures.

Mt. Vernon won the SNY Invitational, beating St. Raymond’s 70-54. Boys & Girls knocked off Jefferson in the consolation game, 58-55, when sophomore Mike Taylor hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer.
