NFL: Big Ben had broken ribs
The Steelers had no knowledge that Ben Roethlisberger played the Super Bowl with two broken ribs, as the quarterback revealed in an Internet report. According to SI.com, Roethlisberger said his fractured ribs did not show up on X-rays taken before he led the Steelers to a 27-23 win over Arizona on Feb. 1, but were revealed only during a MRI test he had last week.
* Mel Kaufman, a linebacker who played in three Super Bowls with the Redskins and was a former scout for the NFL team, died Saturday night in his California home. He was 50. An autopsy is scheduled for tomorrow.
* Troubled cornerback Adam “Pacman” Jones was officially released by the Cowboys, making him a free agent.
NBA: T’wolves lose Jefferson for year
Timberwolves center Al Jefferson, the team’s leading scorer and rebounder, will miss the rest of the season with a torn ACL in his right knee. The injury occurred in Sunday’s loss to the Hornets.
* Charles Barkley will sit out TNT’s coverage of All-Star weekend in Phoenix, where he was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving on Dec. 31, before returning to the air sometime the second half of the season.
