MLB: Phils join 30-30-30-30 club
In Washington, the Phillies became the 12th team in major league history with a 30-homer foursome in a 5-3 win over the Nationals. Raul Ibanez went long for the 29th and 30th times this season and Chase Utley hit No. 30, joining Ryan Howard (38) and Jayson Werth (32). The power barrage overshadowed another good start by Pedro Martinez.
* In Boston, Clay Buchholz pitched seven innings of three-hit ball, and Dustin Pedroia hit two of Boston’s season-high six homers to lead the Red Sox to a 10-0 victory over the Orioles. David Ortiz hit his 269th homer as a designated hitter, tying Frank Thomas for the most all-time.
* The Cubs had a major league record-tying eight consecutive hits to start the game and handed the hapless Pirates their 11th loss in 12 games, 9-4.
* Giants ace Tim Lincecum was scratched from his scheduled start due to inflammation in the lower left side of his back. . . . Tigers pitcher Fernando Rodney was suspended for three games and fined for throwing a ball toward the stands following a game last week. No one was hit by the ball, which Rodney said he was throwing to the fans.
* Troy Ellerman, the lawyer who leaked confidential grand jury testimony of Barry Bonds and other athletes, was released from prison in January after serving 16 months of his 30-month sentence.
