Latrell Sprewell did not undergo treatment yesterday for his sprained left ankle – a good sign that it did not swell up overnight. The Knicks are listing Spree as probable for tonight’s game vs. the Nets at the Garden.

Sprewell, who has the highest pain tolerance on the team, rolled his ankle late in the fourth quarter Wednesday in Utah on a spinning drive in the lane. Spree stepped on Byron Russell’s foot and crumpled to the court under the basket. Ironically, 24 hours before, Spree’s buddy Chris Webber sprained his ankle in exactly the same spot at the Delta Center when the Kings faced the Jazz. Webber is out indefinitely.

Spree came out of the game with 3:17 left and did not return. However, he was able to limp out of the locker room on his own – another good sign.

While the Knicks expect Spree to be able to play, keep in mind the last two Knick players with ankle sprains – Marcus Camby and Kurt Thomas – missed three and five games, respectively.

If the Knicks lose Spree, it would be deadly as their passion and hunger has already been on the wane in going 4-7 in their last 11 games.
