Going from Michael Vick to Drew Bledsoe is like going from chasing a butterfly to chasing a statue.

When Giant defensive ends Michael Strahan and Osi Umenyiora rush from the outside this Monday night, they know where the Cowboy quarterback will be standing.

“He is not a guy who is going to run out of the pocket,” said ESPN analyst Joe Theismann. “Believe me, Osi and Michael are not going to have to look very far for Drew. It is not going to be like chasing Michael Vick all over the stadium.

“In the span of one week, they get polar opposites in football. They get the one guy who you don’t know where he is going to be. The other guy, you can build a building around him because he is not going to be very far away.” The Giants and the Cowboys own the Monday night spotlight in a huge NFC East divisional showdown. Theismann thinks the outcome will be decided when Dallas has the ball. What happens in front of Bledsoe will decide the game.

“The matchup I look at is the Giants’ front four going against the Cowboys’ front five,” Theismann said. “You have to get pressure on Drew Bledsoe.” Bledsoe was Bill Parcells’ No. 1 draft pick (first overall) in 1993 when Parcells coached the Patriots. The QB took Parcells’ Pats to the Super Bowl, but now he’s a journeyman, trying to hold onto his job.

“Drew can run in streaks,” Theismann said. “Sometimes he can look as bad as bad can be. Other times he can get on a roll and he can run off 15 straight and he throws the ball like no one in the game.” In his 14th year in the league, Bledsoe, 34, can precisely place passes in receivers’ hands if given time. He is completing 60 percent of his throws and his quarterback rating is 70.4.

By comparison, Giant QB Eli Manning is completing 65 percent of his passes, and his quarterback rating is 92.3. So the quarterbacking edge definitely goes to the Giants.

If the Giants pressure Bledsoe, it is an edge with a bullet.
