STEVENSON AGREES TO NEW DEAL
The Devils’ list of upcoming unrestricted free agents shrank by one yesterday when pugnacious winger Turner Stevenson agreed to a three-year deal that could be worth $4.5 million, The Post has learned.
One of five potential unrestricteds, Stevenson elected to forego his chances to become a rare Group 5 walker at age 30.
“I want to be here and stay here,” Stevenson told The Post.
The Canadiens’ 1990 first-rounder, acquired before last season in the Krzysztof Oliwa shuffle, agreed to salaries of $1.05, $1.1 and $1.15 million, with games-played bonuses that could lift his salaries to $1.25, $1.5 and $1.75 million. He earned $950,000 last season.
Stevenson went plus-11 while scoring eight goals and 26 points in mostly fourth-line duty last season, and his performance improved as his ice time increased.
