Islanders 2 Flyers 2

This Philly tie was acceptable. Four days ago, the Islanders held a 3-0 lead vs. the Flyers before allowing three goals in the final 3:06 to windup in a disgraceful 3-3 deadlock at First Union Center.

Last night, the Isles extended their unbeaten streak vs. Philly at home to eight (6-0-2) with a much more satisfying 2-2 Coliseum tie against the Flyers. “We redeemed ourselves,” coach Bill Stewart said.

Ziggy Palffy, notching his 16th, and Mark Lawrence, getting his 11th, scored the Isles’ goals as twice they fought back from one-goal deficits. Tommy Salo made 33 saves and the Isles held Eric Lindros and John LeClair scoreless.

Defenseman Eric Cairns made his Islanders’ debut and played 12:31.
