St. John’s recruit Kyle Cuffe of Rice and the Red Storm coaching staff were all smiles yesterday after learning the 6-foot-8 forward had posted a qualifying score on his standardized test and will be eligible to play next season.
That leaves center Mohammed Diakite of Rockville, Md., and forward Darius Miles of East St. Louis, Ill. as the only two recruits who have yet to gain their eligibility.
St. John’s coach Mike Jarvis said that Diakite, who’s native tongue is French, is likely to score high enough on the math portion of test to offset any cultural shortcomings he might experience on the verbal. Whether or not Miles receives a qualifying score is moot.
Two sources told The Post that Miles will officially annnounce on Monday that he is entering the NBA Draft. The 6-9 power forward is considered the nation’s No. 2 high school player behind Seton Hall recruit Eddie Griffin.
“I still believe he wants to go to college but if he knows he’s going to be a lottery pick, he’ll eneter the draft,” said Jarvis. “I know Darius and his mother have been talking about it and they’ll make the right decision.”
