MINNEAPOLIS – According to a source in the Florida state’s attorney’s office, Darryl Strawberry will know by late tomorrow or early Friday if he will face charges of cocaine possession and solicting a prostitute.

Since being busted April 14, Strawberry has been waiting anxiously at his Tampa home for a court date to be set. Legal minds following the case believe the state attorney’s office doesn’t have a strong case against the troubled slugger and that is why nothing has materialized.

”You should call back Friday,” the source said.

Joseph Ficarrotta, Strawberry’s lawyer, is set to talk to the attorney’s office tomorrow. Strawberry, who is on an official leave of absence from baseball while he deals with his legal problems, continues to draw his $2.5 million salary. Meanwhile, George Steinbrenner remains mum on the issue while he awaits the outcome of the legal issues.
