Sunriver, winner of last year’s Peter Pan for Todd Pletcher, then third in Belmont Stakes, didn’t have much luck since. After being injured in Jim Dandy at Saratoga, didn’t race again until April, when third at Aqueduct, then finished far up track in Pimlico stakes on Preakness undercard. Trying turf for first time in yesterday’s allowance feature at mile-and-eighth, son of Saint Ballado went right to front under Ramon Dominguez, set relaxed pace, then exploded turning for home to draw off as much best.

* Field of six 3-year-olds goes mile on Widener lawn in today’s Grade 3, $100,000 Hill Prince. Bill Mott’s Marcavelly, who broke his maiden by seven lengths over this course first out as 2-year-old and this year won Transylvania on Keeneland grass by 31/2, looks like solid choice under Edgar Prado.

FIFTH RACE: Credit Kent Desormeaux for cagey ride on Cagey Girl in starter allowance on grass. Ignored at 11-1 despite setting pace, holding second in last start, Cagey Girl went to front again, stalked by Miss Vanity, who bid for lead turning for home. But Cagey Girl, after going easily on pace, kicked clear top of stretch to post upset.

NINTH RACE: Jocassee, 9-5 making first start for Pletcher-Velazquez since Sept., gunned to front going mile on turf, pressed by We Love Our Kids. Those two ran 1-2 to midway of far turn, when Cute Cognac, 6-5 favorite for Barclay Tagg under Eibar Coa, ranged up in bold bid for lead. Cute Cognac looked like she’d blow right by, but Jocassee dug in to battle back. In ding-dong duel down length of stretch, Cute Cognac gradually clawed to front, but in final yards Jocassee came on again to gain nod at wire.
