Take a bite out of Vick
Falcons QB Michael Vick has bigger worries than his indictment in a dog-fighting ring, his fantasy draft stock is slipping . . . fast! NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell has a short but action-packed history in the department of player discipline – having suspended Pacman Jones, Chris Henry and Tank Johnson during his brief tenure.
Backed with a federal indictment, there’s no reason to believe Goodell will let Vick slide. The commish hasn’t waited for convictions, specifically in the Pacman incidents. And judging by the disturbing content of the indictment, it might be just as tough for him to wait this one out, as the gory details escape the sports nitch and bombard mainstream America.
At present, the Fantasy Tracker cannot in good faith recommend drafting Vick at any point. If you’re roster is stocked to the point you can splurge with a third QB, maybe. But we beleive even then you can find a safer option.
If the unexpected happens and Goodell elects not to bypass a suspension to start the season, then re-adjust your draft boards. But even then, we would downgrade Vick to backup only, even in deep leagues. This is topic will be a pit bull that dogs him all season. And thus far in his career, we haven’t seen the kind of mental fortitude from Vick we think is necessary to put this issue aside while on the field. Thus, we feel even if he plays, he won’t play well.
