LOUISVILLE – Talk Is Money, a rank outsider despite the presence of Jerry Bailey in the saddle, was the only Derby horse to work yesterday morning. He breezed three furlongs here in a slow :37.4.

Afterward, Talk Is Money was examined by veterinarian Dr. Alex Harthill and there were rumors the colt was lame, but trainer John Scanlan denied them. He was reshod later in the day.

Point Given, who reared up and almost fell over on the asphalt last week when he was spooked by a cameraman, reared again yesterday after his morning gallop, the first time he’d been back to the track since Monday’s big workout.

“Any time he comes off a day of just walking the shedrow, he’s a handful,” said exercise rider Pepe Aragon. “He’s just feeling so good, and he’s so strong, you’ve got to be extra sharp. He’s got a mind of his own.”

“We can’t let our guard down,” trainer Bob Baffert said.
