Frances Tiafoe’s girlfriend, Ayan Broomfield, was stunned after the American upset 22-time Grand Slam champion Rafael Nadal in the fourth round of the U.S. Open on Monday.

Broomfield — who is a Canadian tennis player and UCLA alum — took to her Instagram story to share that she was “speechless” after Tiafoe defeated Nadal 6-4, 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 in a thriller that lasted more than three hours and 30 minutes.

It was the first time the Spaniard Nadal, 36, lost to an American at a major in 17 years, when he was beaten by James Blake at the U.S. Open in 2005.

Broomfield was seen on the broadcast numerous times as she watched nervously as Tiafoe took on the world No. 3 player.

Broomfield, who sported a green Yankees hat, sat near Tiafoe’s favorite NBA player, Bradley Beal of the Washington Wizards. Tiafoe is a Maryland native.

“I felt the world had stopped,’’ Tiafoe said after the match. “I’m beyond happy — almost in tears.

“He’s definitely one of the greatest of all time. I played unbelievable tennis today. I don’t know what happened.”

Tiafoe and Broomfield first met through their mutual friend, fellow tennis player Vickie Duval, according to Essentially Sports. Tiafoe reportedly made the first move and slide into Broomfield’s Instagram DMs during the U.S. Open in 2015.

The 24-year-old, Tiafoe is the youngest American male to get this far in the US Open since a then-24-year-old Andy Roddick was a finalist in 2006.

Tiafoe will face Andrey Rublev of Russia in a quarterfinal on Wednesday.
