Does Serena Williams have one last magical run left in her?
The 23-time Grand Slam winner begins her final tennis tournament Monday night, facing Danka Kovinic in the first round of the 2022 US Open, after which Williams announced she will retire.
The draw broke favorably for the 407th-ranked Williams. If she gets by the 80th-ranked Kovinic, Williams will face the winner of the Jaqueline Adina Cristian-Anett Kontaveit match. Kontaveit is the No. 2 seed but has slumped as of late.

Serena Williams singles’ career lives on for another two days. Monday’s rollicking Ashe Stadium crowd of 24,000 didn’t disappoint in their thunderous support and neither did Williams.

The 40-year-old South Florida retiree shook off an erratic serve early on and prevailed 6-3, 6-3 over 80th-ranked Danka Kovinic on a humid Flushing evening.
