Serena Williams didn’t need to leap over any tall buildings or move faster than a speeding bullet to run down a would-be thief.
Security surveillance video captured the moments immediately after Williams saw a man taking her cell phone, which she had placed on an empty chair next to her inside a Chinese restaurant in San Francisco, ABC News reported on Thursday.
Williams made her way through the restaurant’s tight spaces, ran outside and caught up with the man down the block, footage showed.
She questioned the man, who then took the phone out of his jacket pocket and handed it to Williams before she scampered back inside the restaurant.
So it was a quick, brisk walk — not quite a breathless “superhero” act, as Williams described in a social media posting on Wednesday about the weird Tuesday night incident.
Williams said the man tried to pass off the attempted theft as an accident.
Williams recalled the man saying: “ ‘It was so confusing in there. I must have grabbed the wrong phone.’ ”
