You never want to get carried away about a single loss in June, no matter the opponent, no matter the situation, no matter the history, and so it’s important to remember that the Yankees didn’t lose a thing last night other than a grisly 7-0 whitewash to the Red Sox. It’s one game, one game in the standings, 1 out of 162, all of that.
But there were some troubling signals nonetheless, starting with the Yankees continuing inability to beat the Sox (they’re now 0-6 against the them, 34-18 against everyone else), extending through A.J. Burnett‘s horrid outing culminating with the possibility that Big Papi may have arisen from a season long slumber — and a growing general sense that the Sox now reside in the Yankees’ collective head.
That can change in a few innings tonight, of course. But with Chien-Ming Wang on the mound …

It honestly doesn’t matter if you like hockey or ignore it, if you have even the slightest idea that the Stanley Cup playoffs are even going on right now; you should and you will tune in to Game 7 Friday night, in Detroit, because there is nothing in sports quite like a Game 7, especially in hockey, especially in the Finals. And especially with Sidney Crosby in the house on the doorstep of his destiny.
