JET REPORT CARD

QUARTERBACKS: A

Chad Pennington was 18-of-23 for 231 yards, 2 TDs and 2 INTs and a 101.3 rating; 8-of-8 for 134 yards and 2 TDs in the second half, a perfect 158.3 rating.

RUNNING BACKS: B+

Curtis Martin (24-for-67, 1 TD rushing) ran with heart and spirit, gaining tough yards. FB Jerald Sowell had five catches for 32 yards.

WIDE RECEIVERS: A

Kevin Swayne caught his first career NFL TD, a 27-yarder. Curtis Conway had his best day as a Jet with five catches for 78 yards and a TD.

TIGHT ENDS: C+

Anthony Becht had a drop, as did Chris Baker, though Baker’s drop ended up deflecting to Santana Moss, who turned it into a 31-yard gainer.

OFFENSIVE LINE: B+

C Kevin Mawae had a particularly good game, destroying the Titans on a pull on Martin’s TD run. RT Kareem McKenzie also had a terrific game.

DEFENSIVE LINE: B+

DE Bryan Thomas (five tackles) had a very active game, and DT Josh Evans shared a sack. There was excellent pressure on Steve McNair.

LINEBACKERS: B

Marvin Jones (six tackles, one pass defensed) was all over Titans RB Eddie George. Sam Cowart had eight tackles and his tackling was better.

SECONDARY: B+

Sam Garnes had his best game as a Jet, with an INT, a half-sack and a key pass breakup on a goal-line stand.

SPECIAL TEAMS: B

Moss averaged 8 yards on two punt returns and Jonathan Carter averaged 20 yards on two KO returns.

KICKING GAME: B

K Doug Brien was good on his only FG attempt, a 27-yarder. P Dan Stryzinski averaged 40 yards on three punts.

COACHING: A

Give Herman Edwards credit for having his team hungry and believing. Give defensive coordinator Ted Cottrell credit for his aggressive game plan.
