Tiger Woods yesterday made public his intention to play in The Players Championship and the AT&T National in the coming months.

Woods’ early commitment to these two events, both tournaments he normally would play, is a change of behavior for him. He usually waits until the last possible moment before committing to most events, which is the Friday afternoon before the event.

Woods recently made an early commitment to the Quail Hollow Championship, which begins next week in Charlotte, and will be his first event since the Masters. It, too, marks the first tournament Woods will have played that is open to the public buying tickets since his sex scandal sent him into hiding for months.

The Quail Hollow Championship, which was virtually sold out as of last night, is unlike the Masters, where tickets are owned like football season tickets by patrons.

Woods signed up for The Players Championship, which starts May 6, nine days ahead of the deadline.

And, despite the fact that he’s no longer the host of the AT&T National, which will be held over the Fourth of July weekend at Aronomink outside Philadelphia, Woods made an early commitment to that event.

AT&T, of course, was one of the major sponsors who dropped Woods when the sex scandal broke. The tournament, however, still benefits Woods’ foundation.

After Quail Hollow and The Players, which are played in back-to-back weeks, Woods most likely is to play the Memorial before playing in the U.S. Open at Pebble Beach, Calif., in June.
