This is one way to thin out Tiger Woods’ massive galleries.
The 14-time major winner took a daring shot at the British Open over spectators’ heads at the second hole Friday at Carnoustie. Woods’ tee shot ended on a steep bank and he attempted to hit a hook that went poorly.
In an attempt to get onto the green, Woods nearly decapitated onlookers after his shot failed to gain enough altitude over the crowd. Fans can be seen dodging the rolling ball.
Somehow, no one was hurt and Woods settled for a bogey five.
“It was a test, but I have to say the fairways were a lot easier to hit today,” Woods said on Golf Channel. “They weren’t as fiery. The ball wasn’t traveling as far on the ground. We could get after some of these flags, which was nice. Yesterday was a little bit more defensive. Today we could be a little bit more offensive, which was nice.”
In his first British Open since 2015, the 42-year-old finished the round with his second straight even-par 71. As of Friday afternoon, Woods was six shots back of the leaders and well within the cut line.
