The U.S. Open has a special link to the 9/11 tragedy. The Open was the last professional sporting event staged on New York soil with the Twin Towers still standing.

Today before today’s men’s final between Andre Agassi and Roger Federer, Open officials are planning to commemorate 9/11 with a scheduled flyover by four A-10 Thunderbolt II jets from the Air National Guard, according to a source. Also, James Taylor will sing “America The Beautiful” before the special ceremony that will include a moment of silence for victims of 9/11 and Hurricane Katrina.
