Jake Paul and Tommy Fury’s long-awaited fight has hit yet another roadblock.
Fury was denied entry to the United States from England by Homeland Security officers who stopped him at Heathrow Airport Tuesday morning. The 23-year-old light heavyweight and former “Love Island” star was attempting to travel to New York for his Wednesday press conference at Madison Square Garden for the bout with the YouTube megastar.
The news now puts their Aug. 6 fight in jeopardy, as Fury and his team look to solve his ineligibility to enter the country.
“Me and my team this morning arrived at Heathrow Airport ready for the press conference, ready to fly out,” Fury said in a video posted on his Instagram story. “And as soon as I entered the airport I got pulled to one side and I was told by the Homeland Security officer that was there that my ESTA had been denied and I wasn’t able to travel to the USA for a reason that I apparently know.
“I can stand here and I say I’ve done absolutely nothing wrong and I have no clue why I’m not allowed to travel to the USA.”
Tommy Fury spoke on his Instagram story on Tuesday addressing being denied entry into the United States. Instagram/@tommyfuryEarlier this month, Fury’s half-brother and boxing heavyweight champion Tyson Fury was denied access to the United States along with other boxers over alleged links to Irish crime boss Daniel Kinahan. The influential boxing promoter and head of MTK Global has been accused by the High Court of Ireland as a senior figure in organized crime on a global scale. Alongside his father, he was sanctioned by the United States government in April.
Kinahan has allegedly served as an advisor to Tyson, and the two have been photographed together.
For his part, Tyson has denied any wrongdoing and downplayed his relationship with Kinahan.
“Because I had my picture taken with a man it doesn’t make me a criminal,” Tyson said earlier this month. “I’m just a boxer.”

Top Rank via Getty ImagesTommy’s current holdup is not believed to be related to Tyson and his current ban from entering America, according to a source with knowledge of the situation. Tommy was not expecting any hiccups in his travel, and the issue is believed to be clerical surrounding missing or incorrect paperwork instead of related to Tyson’s ban. There is confidence the issue will be quickly resolved and the fight’s Aug. 6 date will remain intact. The fight is set to headline at Madison Square Garden and air on Showtime PPV.
“Despite many assurances by Tommy Fury’s team that he was able to come to the U.S., and knowing that Tommy was in California just last month, we were surprised to learn that he had an issue at Heathrow Airport on Monday,” Most Valuable Promotions, who promotes Paul, said in a statement. “As a result of circumstances out of our control, the scheduled press conference for Wednesday at MSG has been postponed. We are working with our partners at SHOWTIME and Madison Square Garden and will share more information as soon as we are able.”
Jake Paul reacts after defeating Tyron Woodley on Dec. 18, 2021. Getty ImagesFury and Paul were originally scheduled to fight in December, but Fury withdrew due to an illness and injury. The two have traded ample criticism of each other since, as Paul has accused Fury of not actually wanting the fight and being scared of him.
As Fury once again casts doubt on their bout, Paul is again accusing Fury of dodging the fight.
“Tommy, no matter how hard u try to get out of this fight, I’m going 2 do everything in my power 2 not let u weasel ur way out [sic],” Paul tweeted. “My team and my partners have made it clear the steps u need to take 2 solve ur latest excuse. Take them or admit ur a scared little bitch.”
Fury (8-0) would represent the first professional boxer Paul has faced inside the ring since trying his hand as a pro. On his way to a 5-0 record, Paul has fought, and defeated, UFC stars Tyron Woodley and Ben Askren, former NBA player Nate Robinson and internet influencer AnEsonGib.
Fury has long said he will shut Paul up and humble his newfound boxing aspirations.
At the moment, however, it’s Fury that’s holding up that declaration.
