Spain forward David Villa believes Germany are wary of his side following their defeat in Euro 2008, Sky Sports reported Monday.

The two sides meet in Durban on Wednesday in the second semi-final of this year’s World Cup, with the winners set to play either Uruguay or Holland in the final.

Spain beat the Germans 1-0 in the 2008 final thanks to a goal from Fernando Torres, although Villa missed out on the game because of injury.

The 28-year-old striker, who recently signed for Barcelona, takes confidence from that success and feels Joachim Low’s men are not pleased to face them.

“We beat Germany two years ago and I don’t think they are happy to meet us again,” Villa said.

“But we have to forget about that game. Without a World Cup [win], it’s like we’ve achieved nothing.”

Villa leads the competition’s scoring chart with five strikes to his name so far, while partner Torres has yet to find the net in South Africa.

“I’m happy with my five goals because they’ve been decisive,” he added.
