Chelsea’s bid for the Premier League title is a little weaker after a shocking finish to their match with Tottenham Hotspur.

Down 3-1, Tottenham stormed back in the second half to tie it in the 75th minute. Chelsea’s Joe Cole, however, put the Blues ahead again in the 80th and it looked like Spurs’ comeback effort would come up short. But in the 88th minute, the unstoppable Robbie Keane drew his side level again with a dramatic strike into the top corner.

Tottenham had a chance to nick all three points when Dimitar Berbatov went for goal at the death, but his attempt was turned away to cement the draw. Spurs, who had seen great success under Martin Jol, struggled out of the gate this season. Their performance saw Jol dismissed, with Juande Ramos as his replacement. Under Ramos, Tottenham has won the Carling Cup and have been resurgent, avoiding any real flirtation with relegation as the season winds down.

While Ramos wasn’t able to translate to Tottenham his success with Sevilla in the European tournament, his side should be pleased at their success against the Blues this season. Spurs have a lot to build on for next year, including the use of their invitation to the UEFA Cup.

For Chelsea, the draw hurts their chase of table-toppers Manchester United and second-place Arsenal. A win against Spurs would have brought the Blues level in points with their Gunner rivals, but they’d have remained in third on goal difference. As it stands now, Chelsea is still in third, but they are two points behind Arsenal and will require multiple results to keep pace if the Emirates side continues to climb.
