Tough loss for Paramus
The Paramus Little League team got off to a rough start in its Mid-Atlantic Regional pool play opener last night, losing 8-4 to Mill Hall, Pa., in Bristol, Conn.
After loading the bases and failing to score in the top of the first, the New Jersey state champions were hurt by three errors in the bottom half of the inning, allowing Mill Hall to jump out to a 4-0 lead it would never relinquish.
“We shot ourselves in the foot on offense and defense in the first,” Paramus coach Frank Smith said. “When you load the bases, you have to come up with some runs there. Then we allowed them to carry over the momentum in the bottom of the first . . it was a tough inning.”
After Paramus struck back with three unearned runs of their own in the top of the third, Mill Hall immediately scored three more in the bottom of the inning to put the game away.
“I told them after the game I was proud of them,” Smith said. “We scratched and clawed our way back . . . we fight and fight and fight, and [the kids] didn’t quit.”
Paramus will be back in action this afternoon, when it takes on Washington, D.C.
