Here’s a look at some key players at the U.S. Open this week at Winged Foot:
Dustin Johnson
No. 1 in the world, two wins and two seconds in past four events, newly minted FedExCup champion. Has four top-four finishes in U.S. Opens from 2014-18. Any questions?
Jon Rahm
For as talented as he is and for his No. 2 ranking, the Spaniard has yet to truly threaten at a major. He thrives on tough set-ups, as evidenced by his wins at Muirfield and Olympia Fields this year. That could bode well at Winged Foot, which will be a handful.
Collin Morikawa
He’s been one of the big stories of the season, as the PGA Championship winner. His form has remained terrific. Does he have a second major championship in him this year?
Bryson DeChambeau
He took the PGA Tour by storm early in its restart with his bulked-up physique and bomb drives but has fizzled of late.

He has a score to settle at Winged Foot, particularly on No. 18. He, too, is a record six-time runner-up in U.S. Opens. At age 50, can he possibly do it?
Justin Thomas
The likely PGA Tour Player of the Year has one major victory, the 2017 PGA, but has only one top-10 in a major in his past eight tries.
Webb Simpson
The 2012 U.S. Open winner has been in good form this season.
Rory McIlroy
Is he ready to return to form after just having his first child?
Xander Schauffele
He has six top-10 finishes in 12 major championship starts and has been in great form all season.
Gary Woodland
The forgotten defending champion from Pebble Beach in 2019, has had a quiet 2020.
Tiger Woods
Speaking of forgotten, Woods has played so little this season we sometimes forget he’s still competing.
