Brock Lesnar won’t be returning to UFC after all.
UFC president Dana White told ESPN.com on Tuesday that Lesnar (5-3) said he is retiring and won’t be fighting in the octagon again. This means UFC will have to change plans because it has had recent discussions of booking Lesnar in a title fight with defending champion Daniel Cormier this summer. Lesnar, 40, informed the outfit last week that he’s not fighting again.
“He told me he’s done, he’s retired,” White told ESPN. “We’re going to move in another direction with Cormier.”
According to White, the new plan is to book a rematch between Cormier (22-1) and former champ Stipe Miocic (18-3), who previously met at UFC 226 in July 2018. Cormier won the heavyweight belt by knocking out Miocic in the first round.
Lesnar also recently lost the WWE Universal Championship to Seth Rollins at Wrestlemania. There was no word if he would be returning to the company.
Rollins told Express Sport Tuesday that he would be willing to have a rematch with Lesnar.
“I’d be up to the task,” he said. “The thing is I’m down for a challenge because if you’re a champion that kind of rests on his laurels and says, ‘I don’t know, I already beat that guy, he’s not worthy’ then I think that’s not the kind of champion I want to be.
“While Brock Lesnar is living and breathing he is most certainly a capable challenger for the Universal Championship.”
