LONDON — Unsettled Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Luka Modric will miss Monday’s trip to Manchester United, with manager Harry Redknapp admitting that the player’s “head’s not in the right place.”
Modric, who seeks a move to English Premier League rival Chelsea, was left out of Spurs’ squad for its game against the defending league champion, which opens the team’s campaign after the postponement of its first scheduled fixture in the aftermath of the London riots.
The 25-year-old Croatian continues to be linked with a move to Chelsea, with the west London club expected to make a third offer for the playmaker to add to the imminent arrival of winger Juan Mata from Valencia.
Modric also missed the Europa League win over Hearts last week due to injury. But Redknapp admitted that he probably was fit enough to play at Old Trafford on Monday — if he was in the right state of mind.
“He’s got a little bit of an injury,” the Spurs boss said. “There’s a possibility he could have played through it, but at the moment his head’s not in the right place.”
