Notre Dame was left off the college football playoff ticket, and coaching legend Urban Meyer wants Marcus Freeman to fight fire with fire.

Meyer, who had no success as an NFL coach but was a hit as the head coach of the Florida Gators and Ohio State Buckeyes, won three national championships and, perhaps unsurprisingly, implored Freeman to stay the course.

“I would say, ‘You stay in college 100 percent.’ You have controllables in college as a head coach. In the NFL, there’s so many uncontrollables that you don’t have, whether it’s the GM, the owner … In college, it’s you,” Meyer said Monday to Colin Cowherd.

Meyer may be a bit biased, though, as his time as an NFL coach went terribly.

He took over the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2021 and was fired midseason with a 2-11 record.

He allegedly assaulted his kicker, Josh Lambo, while also being filmed in a bar while a woman, who was not his wife, danced on his lap when he should have been with the team.

His tenure is largely viewed as a disaster and he has not coached at any level since, although he’s still known as one of the best college coaches ever with a 187-32 career record.

“Plus, you’re gonna lose in the NFL. It’s built — and I’m not sure the Marcus I know — he can’t take losing like I can’t take losing. You’re gonna win at Notre Dame,” Meyer said while also adding that the Fighting Irish will be favored in most games that they play.

Freeman has reportedly been “held in high regard” by the Giants organization as they pursue their next coach to feed them with a strong nucleus of young talent.

Freeman, who leads a star-studded Notre Dame team that just barely missed the playoffs after being left off the bracket by the selection committee.

The Fighting Irish lost to ranked Miami and Texas A&M by a combined four points to start the season 0-2 before rattling off 10 straight wins to have chance to compete for a national championship.

Making the playoffs over Notre Dame were No. 12 James Madison and No. 11 Tulane, as well as No. 10 Miami and No. 9 Alabama. The playoffs begin Dec. 19.

Notre Dame lost to Ohio State in the national championship game last season.
