After stirring controversy with their 13-0 blowout win over Thailand on Tuesday, the U.S Women’s National Team takes the next step in its World Cup title defense Sunday against Chile.
The USWNT and Chile are familiar foes, having playing one another in September, with the Americans scoring 3-0 and 4-0 wins. Alex Morgan leads the offensive force that will run into a Chilean defense that was largely buoyed by goalie Christine Endler’s stellar play in an opening loss to Sweden.
Young, hungry, and eager to impress in their country’s first World Cup appearance, Chile plans to give the U.S. a run for its money, but how long they can sustain any kind of edge against a dominant American team is questionable.
