The University of Virginia has canceled the football program’s Saturday home game against Coastal Carolina, the athletics department announced Wednesday morning, after a shooting left three football players dead and two other students injured.

Former Virginia football player Christopher Darnell Jones Jr., 22, was arrested following a 12-hour manhunt and is accused of killing three members of the football team — Devin Chandler, Lavel Davis Jr. and D’Sean Perry — after a shooting on a bus Sunday that had just returned to campus from a field trip to Washington.

Saturday’s matchup was set to be the Cavaliers’ final home game of the season. The school has not yet decided if the football team will play its last game at Virginia Tech on Nov. 26.

“It feels like it’s a nightmare, to be honest with you, and I’m ready for somebody to pinch me and wake me up and say that this didn’t happen,” Virginia football coach Tony Elliott told reporters on Tuesday.

Jones, who made his first court appearance on Wednesday but was not arraigned, is facing three second-degree murder charges, along with two counts of malicious wounding of the two surviving victims: football player Michael Hollins and school sophomore Marlee Morgan. Hollins was in critical condition but is improving after a second surgery, a family representative told WDBJ-TV on Tuesday.

Jones was a member of the Virginia football team in 2018 but did not appear in any games and hadn’t been part of the program for more than a year.

His grandmother, Mary Eliza Jones, told The Post on Tuesday “things weren’t going well” at the school for her grandson, adding, “I know he had a downfall.”

His father, Christopher Darnell Jones Sr., previously told NBC 12 that people were “picking on” his son, who he said “didn’t know how to handle it.”
