Tom Brady isn’t the only athlete with star power in his family.
The Buccaneers quarterback shares the spotlight with his niece, Maya Brady, who’s a UCLA softball redshirt freshman and home run powerhouse. On Friday, Brady gave a shoutout to Maya, a utility player, on Twitter after she launched two homers in the Bruins 8-0 win over Arizona on Thursday night — marking her first career two-homer game.
“Hey @RobGronkowski next time you need a ball dropped 600 ft out of the air in Tucson just ask Maya,” the seven-time Super Bowl champion tweeted to his teammate, tight end Rob Gronkowski.
Back in March, the proud uncle declared Maya “the most dominant athlete” in the Brady family on Twitter. In 2020, she was named the Softball America Freshman Player of the Year after leading the Bruins with seven home runs and tying for first with 28 runs batted in.
Maya, who stands tall at 5-foot-11, doesn’t get her softball skills from her uncle. Her mother Maureen, Brady’s sister, was an All American softball star at Fresno State in the 1990s. In addition to her skills on the softball field, Maya also dominates when the Brady family gets together for dodgeball matchups.
Before she committed to UCLA with an undecided major, Maya was a middle fielder at Oaks Christian High School in Thousand Oaks, California, and was named the Ventura County Star 2019 All-County Softball Player of the Year.
When she’s not hitting homers or bonding with her famous family — including uncle Kevin Youkilis, a two-time World Series champion with the Red Sox — Maya enjoys spending time with friends and her longtime boyfriend.
Some of her “favorites,” according to her UCLA softball bio, include the movie “Pocahontas,” singer Beyonce and professional athletes, softball star Amanda Lorenz and, of course, her uncles. When it comes to an athlete she admires most, Maya looks up to tennis icon Serena Williams “because of her lion attitude and will to win.”
Maya’s winning mentality sounds like she took a page out of uncle Tom’s book, for sure.
